We can say that most of us are cartoon watchers only till our last day of childhood ends, but comic readers often don’t have any such limits. Comics, whether fantasy or action-thriller, are enjoyable to read and a good time pass. They are as interested as novels and are followed by a large community of readers. So we can say that most of us must have read comics from Marvel or DC comics, but nowadays people are shifting to the independent stuff renowned as Indie Comics. These comics are written and drawn by independent artists who are doing it either for fun or some money-making. This is not the mainstream field but very wide and open for all the new players. But this independent stuff is now making its way to iTunes via Emanata. Let’s head to it then.

Emanata Comics is a new iOS app that has been developed by Emanata. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 5.0 or later version. The app has also been optimized for iPhone 5 but optimal performance is achieved on iPad due to wider screen. The app is a store for many Indie comics just like eBook store.

As you open the app, you are greeted with hundreds of Indie comics on the wall. You can scroll down to view the various comics available. While some of them are free and marked with blue tag, the green ones are paid and offer a limited page preview to have a glance at the comic content.  To read a comic, just click on the thumbnail and start flipping pages. The images are very clear even on zooming but you might find it difficult to read the words on a small screen like that of iPhone.

The app is integrated with many social features. You can follow an artist if you like his work and he will be added to your “My Artists” list. To follow someone, you must first be signed into your Emanata account which will take not more than a few seconds. You can also share your readings on Facebook and Twitter directly from the app. There is a link to the artist’s own website as well. It helps to promote the artist as it is one of the biggest positives of this app; promoting underground talent.

Though the app is free in the App Store, there are many in-app purchases available. These are the various comics you want to buy for the full versions. And it’s obvious that the money you pay goes to developers as well as the original writers and creators. But if you are not willing to spend any of your pennies on the Indie stuff, there are still plenty of comics available for free reading. Also, the content is regularly updated with new comics. So, for the time being, it seems to be an endless adventurous journey for the readers.

Pros: Indie comics; swipe navigation; integrated social features; promotes underground talent; free.

Cons: none.
