What’s the primary purpose of a Smartphone? Some will say gaming, some will vote for music player while there will be many other supporters for social networking and there are obvious reasons for calling. But I don’t expect many of them to say that they wanted a call recorder and they bought a phone for that. That won’t be a smart choice obviously but a call recorder has different meanings to different people. While some of us might not even know that there is a call recorder already installed in their phone, some will pass it number of times but never open it. There are only a few who actually use it in the way it’s intended to be used. But there are many uses to a recording app and that’s why we have a new app in the Play Store that is sure to change the trend, a little though!
I am talking about the new Android app called Spy Recorder Free that has been developed by Anthony Rioux. The app is compatible with all the Android devices running Android 2.3 or any later version of the OS. You can find it under the Music & Audio category of the Play Store.
First, let me tell you that almost all Smartphones have a recording app already installed in their device and therefore, we see no need for a new one. But if you actually use it, you will encounter some problems related with it such as the format in which the audio files are recorded, the recording destination is fixed (mostly internal storage) and can’t be changed, the number of recordings allowed is limited sometimes and their recording quality is not always the best. So now that we have the list of problems to be resolved, let’s see how many of them are resolved by this app.
The format problem is very serious as they are mostly .wav files which are not compatible with your computer or any other device. In Spy Recorder, the recording format is .3gp which is mostly compatible with other devices as well. Second, you can choose your destination folder and each new destination will be remembered so that you can choose the name directly without having to enter the complete address again and again. Next, you can record unlimited number of recordings as you can use the external SD card storage as well. Lastly, the quality of audio files is very good such that you can even use it to record a scratch song.
Another added feature is that recording will continue even if the phone is locked or goes to sleep mode (absent from in-phone apps). The app is very easy to use but I would like to have the background changed as it was very dark and strain full for eyes. Other than that, as the name suggests this app is free. But there is an ad free version also available for $0.99 which allows you to access internet as well. So there are many good qualities in this one, but the fact that it’s still nothing more than an audio recorder might keep it low on the user’s list.
Pros: compatible format; customizable storage; unlimited recordings; good audio quality; free.
Cons: at last, it remains a simple audio recorder.
