Cloud has almost become synonym with popular services such as Dropbox or Google Drive that offer you limited storage online. But there’s more to it. Cloud services are meant to make your life device-free so that you can access your data anywhere without the necessity of being close to your personal computer. But there are some strings attached. The limited storage somehow restricts the usability. There are innumerable files on your computer that one day or another you have to share with your friends/colleagues and therefore it’s a continuous perpetual cycle of uploading the files again and again. If you forget to add a file to the particular folder attached to your cloud, then you’re as distant from the file as from your PC. But reforms are always accepted with open hands and one such revolutionary idea we have received from the makers of Younity!
Younity is an iOS app that has been developed by Entangled Media Corp. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 7.0 or any later version of the OS. This app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.
Younity connects all your devices with a common bond and lets them share all the data they have instantaneously. First of all, you need to install Younity’s desktop version on your PC and it’s compatible with both Mac OS and Windows. Then you have to install this app on your iOS device and that’s all. Then you can access all the data stored on your computer directly from your iOS device (any number). It might sound amusing at first but you’d soon get the proof. It includes music files, documents, videos, etc. Moreover, you can share any data stored on your PC without first uploading it on any Cloud service. So you bypass all that extra processing work and go straight to the main point.
Younity doesn’t store a single bit of your data on its servers and that removes the major security risk regarding your data theft. But because your data isn’t stored online at first, when you share a file with a particular person, your computer must be turned on plugged in to an active internet connection. In case your computer is turned off, data is accessible on your device but unavailable for sending.
Younity gives you the access to social networks such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc directly from the app. So you can upload pictures to your social media accounts directly. You also have Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, etc at one place for you. Moreover, when you share a file, it can’t be re-shared or downloaded but only accessible via this app. So it keeps your ownership unaltered on your files.
The interface of Younity is pretty streamlined and user-friendly allowing you to navigate in the app freely and sorting out all the files in well-defined folders making it further easy for you to find them. The app overall is nothing less than a revolution, a new definition to Cloud!
This app is available for free in the App Store.
Pros: user-friendly UI; access files stored on your PC directly on your iOS devices; no online storage; social media integration; free.
I will give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
