Who isn’t a fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes! He is probably the most popular character from a novel that has seen the cover pages of comic series as well as been featured on the big screens across the world. But there are separate sections of fans; some love to read novels while others enjoy a huge crowd in theatres. While the novels allow you to use your own imagination and take a normal picture of a pond to create a sea with no boundaries, movies paint that picture for you on their own magnificent canvas that goes beyond the limits of your imagination. So there are benefits of both of them and each has its own limitations as well. But what if we create a third mode to taste these stories? At least you can try that once and decide yourself whether it’s worth your time or not!
I am talking about the latest iOS app called Sherlock: Interactive Adventure that has been developed by HAAB. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 6.1 or any later version of the OS. The app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.
Sherlock: Interactive Adventure is a combination of a movie and a novel. It is an interactive version of the chapter “The Red-Headed League” and consists of 30 slides in total. Each page consists of original pieces of text from the novel and there is a 3D animation at the top. You can slide these animations to view the 360 degree scene. There are additional interactive tools such as you can tap and zoom to view hidden objects and these objects will be added to your clue library where you can take a look at them from different angles and read about them.
There is an audio version also available where you’ll be narrated the complete story and the pace of the narration is just fine for you to understand everything at the right time. As the story unfolds, you’ll discover more characters and their records will be unlocked for you to read. Then there is a 19th century interactive map of London available for you to track down the accused.
This app is not just about reading a novel but for you to be a part of it. You are Dr. Watson and therefore you’ll be a part of history. There is a collection of selective period articles which you can read and are pieces of gold for the diehard fans of Sherlock Holmes.
The characterization and graphics of this app are beyond par. You will be lost in it and a price tag of $2.99 is just a small price for such a gem. It has been crafted very beautifully and the work will be applauded by everyone, even if you haven’t heard of Sherlock Holmes. A must have app for everyone.
Pros: amazing graphics; 30 animated scenes; audio version; dossier; free version available.
Cons: none.
I will give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
