With the recent acquisition of Whatsapp by Facebook, it is very clear that size doesn’t matter. But it doesn’t require the stamp of a big company always to declare your app successful. If its user friendly serves the purpose and the users like it, it’s already successful. You can find many such apps which don’t have so many users but those who have it, are happy with its performance and stick to it for a very long time until and unless a very good alternate option is available. Meeyu is a chatting application for iOS devices that has been developed by Jason Cooper. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 4.3 or any later version of the OS. The app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.
With so many chatting as well as voice messaging applications already in the market, you’ve got to bring something new to the table or no one will notice you. What’s new in Meeyu is their “Social mood ring” concept which is sharing your mood with your friends and family. There are 8 different moods: Happy, Love, Hate, Sad, Anger, Fear, Envy and Shock from which you can choose anyone as your status. You can also add a line or two on why are you feeling this way. If you want to update this status on your Facebook account as well, you can link your Facebook account though it’s not necessary to do so.
The chatting feature is simple and basic. There are no high-end features but it also helps to keep the app quick and doesn’t hang down your phone as well. There are five tabs on the bottom of screen. The first tab is “My Status” where you can edit your status. The friends section shows all your friends along with their mood. Though chatting is only possible if your friend is also using this app, you can invite him/her via Facebook. There are few things that can be customized such as the font of the text, etc.
So overall, I think Meeyu is a very simple, fast and light weight app with no complexions. The moods certainly add a whole new taste to your social life but they are very limited in number now. They’ve brought the emoticons to the front row and therefore there should be more of them so that users don’t get bored of them.
