With the wide array of file formats out in the market these days, it might be a little hard to find a great app which can access them all in one. iFile for the iOS devices is certainly one of those apps which ticks all boxes for any of you who needs to carry files around in your phone.
Opening up the app on my iPhone 4GS, the feeling which iFile gives me at first glance is an app that integrates the user interface for the user perfectly. The user interface is gorgeous, with a dark grey background and a clear blue font. The app is also responsive to your every touch. For example if you swipe across a file, you can choose what actions you want to undertake for the file. The tabs are tucked snuggly on the bottom of the screen, each with clear fonts that even the elderly can see. There is also a sorting option, meaning that you can sort your files using Date downloaded or alphabetically.
The app itself also supports many types of file formats, from the common .docx for Microsoft Word, to even formats which are very rare to see nowadays like .ico and .xbm. I also liked the fact that the app included even old Word formats, like the .doc or .ppt; this only makes the app more useful as there are still people who use an older Microsoft Office.
The thing which I feel iFile shines at the most is the fact that its PDF reader is much faster and better than even the official one. Most apps and even computer programs out there process PDF files very slowly but iFile’s PDF Reader is rendering the pages very fast. The app’s displays of those pages are also very convenient for a common reader. Also, what is not to like about iFile’s PDF thumbnails and ability to print those files?
iFile is also more than a file manager. You can surf the net using its integrated browser which I feel is very convenient for downloading files. After downloading them off the net, you can use the app to access them in one fell swoop. Their integrated browser has all the functions which you want a phone browser to have, like supporting downloads in the background, setting up a homepage for convenient browsing and it is even integrated with DropBox and iCloud, meaning you can store files on the cloud storage, not wasting your space on the phone.
In a nutshell, this app is perfect for those who need to carry files around constantly. Its integrated browser means that you will not to install another one, saving space. The developers are adding more features into this wonderful app, so stay tuned for more. The price of $1.99 is not steep at all if you consider everything that is inside. I would give it a 9/10 for its versatility and user interface.
