Each one of us has a passion for fast bikes and cars. It’s also true that we spend more time taking care of our vehicle than we spend with our family. But machines have always been adorable whether it’s the engine’s smooth sound or the splendid body design. The better the machine more is it expensive and difficult is its maintenance. Sometimes, we think that everything is running fine and smooth, but it’s only when the bike stops in the middle of the road that we realize the problem. After all, every one of us doesn’t hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering. So, what can we do to solve the problem? Of course, visiting the repair shop every day is not a solution. But I guess, The Engine Tester is a good alternative.
I am talking about the new iOS app, The Engine Tester that has been developed by Custom Mobile Apps. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 5.0 or later version of the OS. The app has also been optimized for iPhone 5. I think this is the first time that our iPhone would be working out in the garage. The concept is unique but will it be useful as well? Let’s check it out.
The working of the app is very simple. First, fill in a few details related to your vehicle such as model, cylinder volume, fuel, etc. Then click next and put your iPhone in front of the exhaust of your vehicle for ten seconds. The app will record the engine voice and the various frequencies. If nothing wrong is measured, the test report will be positive. If it is negative, the report will also suggest the possible causes which you can check for. There is a car checklist as well which lets you check different components of your vehicle regularly.
The graphics department is almost absent in this case as there are no animations or graphics involved. You just have to enter some details and get detailed results in case the report is negative. Going with the accuracy of the results, I can’t say it to be 100% accurate. Even the developers themselves don’t guarantee that and have even specified that the app is not a sole tool for checking the performance of engine. You must take your vehicle to the service centre as well at regular intervals.
The pricing of the app was a big concern with a price tag of $2.99. But for a limited period, the app is priced at just $0.99 which is a great feature for all the features. I appreciate the simplicity of the app and its utility in real-life situations. It’s a must have app for every car owner out there. It’s not a cure, but a precaution at least.
