One day a young boy visits a comic store to buy the latest edition of his favourite comic book, Space Boy. The boy reads it all day and sleeps in the night dreaming of becoming Space Boy some day in his life and saving his planet from aliens. But what happens next is dream come true! Yes, the boy becomes Space Boy and he has a task at hand to save his planet from aliens who have only one intention to arrive here: to end all the happiness.
This story belongs to the latest iOS app called Super Space Boy that has been developed by Craig Lauderdale. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 5.0 or any later version of the OS. The app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.
The story is simple that you’re on a mission to save your planet against aliens. But the gameplay is fun and a little bit complex as well. You have to move up and kill all the aliens coming your way. But to keep your pace in the vertical upward direction, you need a balloon on which you can jump again and again. The balloon is inflated at the start but as you jump, it gets deflated by one number and the number of times you can jump on it more is displayed on the balloon. So when it gets reduced to zero, you’ll fall down the balloon and you lose. But there are power ups coming your way which you have to collect and they will add to the number on the jumps you can take.
Then there is a separate meter of your heart value which decides your life. You have to keep killing the aliens and collect coins and they will add to your life. But if any alien hits you, you lose life and you’ll have to keep that up as well. Then at the end of each stage, there are bosses whom you have to fight with. So overall it’s a very tough challenge. But causes more problems is that the direction of the space boy is a little bit difficult to control with the balloon.
Though the game is challenging, I like it. You’ll get used to the controls and then it becomes a lot more interesting. You know what you’re fighting for and you know the right technique as well. There are multiple objectives in each stage and completing them gives you bonus points as well. You can use these points to upgrade your player. The graphics are also good but could have been better.
Overall, I think that Super Space Boy is a fun, entertaining and challenging game that a person from any age group can play and enjoy. It’s available for free in the App Store and must find a place on your device. So go and download it now!
