The invention of a scanner is as important in our lives as that of the Refrigerator or Air Conditioner. But somehow, this discovery has not been fully realized yet. We have desktop scanners that we use mostly to scan our documents or signatures. But rarely do we use them to scan every second piece of paper that we want to get rid of. For example, say a person has given you his visiting card. Now, you might need it at some point of time later to contact that person. But for the time being, you put it into your purse and forget it. There are many other such “valuables” that you “have to” keep in your purse or bag which you can’t find on time. But instead of carrying all this baggage on your shoulders, if you had scanned them, then you’d only need space of a few MB’s, or not even that!

So today I’m introducing you to a tool that’s meant to “streamline” your process of scanning. No more would you have to wait to reach home or wait at a shop to scan documents. Just download this iOS app called Scanbot that has been developed by doo GmbH. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 8.0 or any later version of the OS.

With Scanbot, it only takes a second to scan any document or QR code. Just aim your phone at the document and it’s done. And if you’ve any doubt about the quality of the scan, then each such PDF or JPG document created is created with 200dpi or higher. So the standards are well met. To take it a step further, the app automatically identifies the edges of the document and scans the document only, leaving the irrelevant. So now you can scan anything even in your hands; you don’t have to first look for a dark background.

The main aim of Scanbot is to make scanning easier and quick. So when scanning becomes easier than clicking a Selfie, I think the developers have managed to do their job right. Now if you have a contact written on a rough paper, just scan it and throw away the paper; you don’t need it. For students, you can scan your lectures and share them with the rest of your classmates who unfortunately couldn’t attend the class.

Cloud integration is another feature that makes this app a must have. You can upload and store your scanned documents on various cloud services such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote, etc. You can also select a default service and all your scanned documents will automatically be uploaded to it. So no more do you need to worry about losing a document important to you.

So overall, I’d say that Scanbot is a handy tool you must possess in your pocket. The app is available for free in the App Store. There’s a paid version as well which comes with extra features of text recognition, password protection, themes and many more. It comes for a one-time price of $4.99. Choice is yours!

Pros: easy to use; quick; cloud integration; high quality scan of 200dpi or higher; free.

Cons: none.

I give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
