Whenever you see a photo, what you see is the end product which consists of all the colours, shapes and whatever. But what you don’t see is the technical aspect of a picture. For example, a high quality picture has a higher resolution compared to one clicked using a low quality camera. Digital cameras are far different from your high-end phone cameras because their technology is completely different and they are much above your Mega-Pixel league. Similarly, there are many other properties related to each such picture which are stored under EXIF data which is Exchangeable Image File data. It is termed as Exchangeable because whenever you share/copy a picture to another device, this data gets exchanged as well. So today we have an app that has something to do with this EXIF data. Let’s check it out and see what it’s got in its locker.

I am talking about the latest iOS app called Loooks. The app has been developed by Takahiro Ishihara who has more apps such as WipeWrite PB and Sendwitch already doing well in the market. Talking about Loooks, the app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 6.0 or any later version of the OS. The app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.

Now, the data related with a photo can be the focal length of the camera, shutter speed, exposure time, resolution, file size, aperture, file format, time and date when the photo was taken, location of the place where photo was taken, etc. Now, some of this data might not be available with every photo depending upon the device but the last mention i.e. location of the place where photo was taken is important. The camera collects this information using your GPS connectivity.

Now, you must be wondering why this information is important. Suppose, you upload a photo to your Facebook account which is accessible to all your friends. Then this EXIF data is available to your friends as well and if you don’t want them to know the place where the image was taken, then the purpose fails to be meant. Also, it can be used on any other site with you being stalked with that information in their hands.

Now that the purpose of the app is known, let’s take a look at how the app works. You cannot change or edit the EXIF data on yourself. You need Software to do so and Loooks is that Software. Just import any photo from your camera roll or gallery and you can view its EXIF details or you can go straight and delete all the data or GPS details only. Not only that, you can then save them to your camera roll and share with your friends using AirDrop, Email, Facebook, etc.

The app is available for free in the App Store. Though it doesn’t serve a great big purpose, it’s enough to make you download that application. You can also download their ad-free paid version from the store.

Pros: simple to use; share directly with friends without any risk; free.

Cons: doesn’t seem to be too important to worry for.

I will give this app 4 out of 5 stars.
