Going to a restaurant with your girlfriend is a harsh reality as you know you’re the one who’ll pay the bill no matter who eats more. But that’s something expected and therefore it doesn’t hurt you later on. What hurts is when you’re in the same restaurant with your friends and while you being a vegetarian order a simple burger, your friends order a non-vegetarian treat for themselves and still you all split the bill equally. It’s like paying for two stomachs from one pocket. Wouldn’t it have been better if everyone paid for his/her own order? But even if you knew the price of what you ordered, tax contributes a big part of the total bill and it changes the whole equation. So you need something dedicated to solve this problem and there’s an exact match waiting for you in the App Store.
I am talking about the latest iOS app called Fair Bill Split that has been developed by Martin Guerrero. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 7.1 or any later version of the OS. This app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.
Thanks to the intuitive UI of this app, now no one will laugh at you while you’re busy fighting with your friends to pay the bill. All you have to do is enter the stats of the bill such as the total amount to be paid, number of persons, etc. You can also enter the tip amount if you want to. Next, the app will show you the amount each person has to pay. But if the case is like the one I discussed above where each person has a different bill, you can enter different amounts for different persons and name them as well for your convenience. To further simplify it, the app uses an OCR or a ‘Photo-to-text’ app where a click of your bill will get you the required amount to be paid individually. So if we add all the time it takes your lazy minds to calculate the amount plus the additional fighting time, this app will surely save you at least 15-20 minutes per visit to your favourite restaurant.
As I said earlier, the user interface is very simple and easy to use. You can directly enter the total bill values or you can enter each and every detail and get the results accordingly. There are pre-tax and pre-tip values as well and therefore tax is distributed as per your consumption and same goes with the tip. There are colour codes as well for different persons. There’s space for 24 persons and 100 bill items. So unless you’re planning for a paid-wedding, this app fits the need of the hour.
The app is available for free in the App Store. So make sure you grab your piece of cake today!
Pros: intuitive UI; calculate bill per person directly from total bill using OCR; detailed stats; pre-tax and pre-tip calculations as well; free.
Cons: none.
I will give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
