Taking notes is a fast process. The speed of the dictator is normally faster than your writing speed. So though you start taking notes in English, you end up writing a Spanish verse and vice-versa. Now imagine if someone else missed the class that day and take your notes to copy the next day. What will be his first reaction? How much time will it take him to understand everything? Even a Google translator isn’t of any use in that case. At the end of the day, you have to restructure the whole paragraph in a language that is understandable to you. This wastes a lot of time of yours and therefore isn’t as much efficient as a process. So my take would be to switch to a machine that understands your writing and converts it automatically in digital language? Don’t know about any such machine? Well, I know!

What I’m talking about is not a machine but an Android app called PhatPad. The app has been developed by PhatWare Corp. The app is compatible with all the devices running Android 2.3.3 or any later version of the OS.

This app is capable of understanding even a Chemist’s hand writing. So whenever you are taking notes, just take out your phone and start writing. When you’re done with writing, just select the text and convert it to text using the tool window. Also, many times you also draw shapes in your notes especially when it is mathematics. So though you start drawing a rectangle, you end up with a circle of double the radius than any of the sides. To encounter this problem, now you just have to select the shapes and they’ll automatically be converted to the best nearest shape possible.

Also, you can record audio files as well and set display time per page for a presentation. So you can use these audio files in your presentation as well with the perfect sync. Numbers of documents are unlimited and you can upload them to Sky Drive as well so that you can open them at any place and transfer to others. Another important feature of this app is that it supports multiple languages including Dutch, German, Finnish, Italian, Spanish, French, etc. and of course, English as well.

The app is very easy to use. The tool palette is designed in a way so that every tool is available to you with ease. You can scroll, zoom and change page size as well. So there are a lot of customizable tools available. It’s like painting on a digital canvas.

The app is available in the Play Store for $4.99. The price is totally justified in exchange of what you’re getting. But I strongly think that any user would think twice before investing this much money. Obviously there will be many worse handwritings looking for this app and they might want to check if their handwriting is detectable or not. So I think that a trial version even for single day validity should be provided.

Pros: simple to use; well designed outlook; many different languages supported; detects almost all different handwritings.

Cons: free version should be available.
