When you take a picture with a camera, what you see is the world behind your lens and you want to summarize that whole big dynamic scene into a small picture with all emotions and expressions deeply repressed by the stillness of the picture. It’s a tough job, isn’t it? But even if you manage to capture that detail in your one-click shot, you’re still missing many possibilities in the post-production of that image. There are many elements that you can’t trust nature for every time. For example, you’re waiting for the sunset but it’s raining for days. So why don’t you add it on your own when it’s available? Sounds a bit weird but there’s almost every special effect available today that nature is famous for. With such a concept in mind, we’re going to hear out the voice of our today’s candidate. Let’s start the proceedings!

It’s the latest Android app called MandelbrotCamera that has been developed by NAMA. The app is compatible with all the devices running Android 4.0.3 or any later version of the OS.

The effects of this app can actually be credited to the contribution of Mathematics. The app takes your photo and combines it with a certain Mandelbrot effect that leads to the final outcome. The developer calls them Fractals which are certain defined geometrical curves all having the same character. But don’t worry; you don’t have to be a mathematician to use this app. It’s like you’re using a computer but you don’t know what’s a processor.

The effects render a beautiful and decent look to your pretty normal or should I say ‘ordinary’ photos. The texture can be controlled to very fine limits. There are many different colours as well. So when you’re using a particular pattern, it’s not going to work in the same fashion with every picture. I mean the same ingredient will taste different in different dishes. But let’s stay out of the culinary discussions for the time being and stick to the app. Apart from beautiful graphics, the app is very simple to use as well. It doesn’t complicate things despite the patterns derived from mathematical models. You can use with the same delight and in the same fashion as you’d decorate your baby doll!

Sharing with MandelbrotCamera is very simple. Whether you want to share it on Instagram or Twitter, there are buttons available directly under the picture. So I guess the app is really worth a try. Not just because it’s simple to use, but because it’s unique in its own terms. The 3D patterns are cool and unique. They merge with the actual photo so beautifully and smoothly that sometimes the two are indistinctive in nature.

The app’s available for free in the Play Store. So if you’ve any creativity inside your head, let’s take it out on the paper and show it to the world!

Pros: mathematically derived patterns; share photos on Instagram and Twitter; free.

Cons: none.

I will give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
