Mathematics is a very complex subject to deal with. I mean there are only 10 numbers and they can help you build a time machine. So there’s obviously something mysterious about these numbers that’s not very easy to find out. But actually these mysterious relations are the ones that make this subject so interesting and playful. Infinite numbers of puzzles can be devised out of these numbers and anyone can play these puzzles because ultimately, there are still only 9 numbers to be used and every literate person is familiar with them. But if anyone can create a puzzle, then it won’t take long for the lower stack of easy puzzles to exhaust up and when there are only some of the most creative and difficult puzzles remaining, it’s out of reach for many and only some serious lovers of the game can get their hands on it. One such rare piece has just come out in the market. Let’s check it out!

I am talking about the latest iOS app called X-Match that has been developed by Liqing Pan. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 5.1 or any later version of the OS. This app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.

Before revealing anything about the puzzle, I must beware you that this game is seriously addictive. Once you’re in the game, it’ll take you 4-5 retries before you can finally eat the dinner your mother prepared for you an hour ago. The rules of the game are simple but you must understand them clearly right at the start of the game. But if you don’t get it in first attempt, don’t worry. You can take a look at the tutorials again.

You have to combine two, three or four numbers together and produce a total of 10 or higher which turns into X. More tiles are produced randomly when you combine these numbers. But when you combine two X’s, you get 2 points and no more tiles are produced. Following the rules is easy but the problem comes in surviving over the course of the game. Hundreds of moves will be played and only at the end phase of the game will you start observing your mistakes. So you must deploy a strategy from the start and stick to it. Even a single move can prove costly in this long battle.

The graphics of this game are nice but it’s obviously the addictive gameplay that has the steering in hands. The more you play, the more you’ll feel of having cracked down the code (which no one has found yet) and the more you’ll play again. But actually, there’s no end button to this cycle. But there’s one very special quality of this game: you can never get bored of it. It always feels fresh like a Sunday morning.

So this game is definitely ON for you if you love your Maths teacher or if you just want to have some fun. Whatever be the case!

X-Match is available for free in the App Store.

Pros: highly addictive gameplay; tutorials to help you understand the rules; pure gaming, nothing else; free.

Cons: none.

I will give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
