Okay, let’s cut the chase by putting things simply… have you at one time wondered how it would exactly be like if you boiled down Zelda series, turn it to a platformer featuring RPG elements and then dump it to the App Store? Yeah all that. Well, it would look like and play like Touch Foo’s Zeroed Out.

Quite some high praise for any game, but Zeroed Out won’t hold back. It throws you right to a generic fantasy storyline, and without hesitation. In his attempt to stop the return of pure evil to the land, your master has just died and you have to seek a magic sword which you will use to bring order back. Along your way you will level up, select to either increase the melee attack, health or spell damage, collect new spells and weapons to get into ever more challenging areas.

The speed at which this game pulls you in is frighteningly fast. For this reason, the player does not feel as though they are pointlessly being forced to side track, making great efforts to explore every area for cache of chests and secret items quite worthwhile especially because you feel the impact of finding or purchasing new equipment immediately.

It takes its inspiration from many classic adventures, and is therefore short. Its incredibly addictive game play makes it one of the greatest addition to any iOS game-collection. The wonderful soundtrack and gorgeous presentation are the cherry put at the top of an already fun game you ought to check out.

The philosophy for this application is that it fits the watch nicely, so all the slot games were kept at 3×3 so that it could fit full screen and appear elegant. Once you tap any place on the phone’s screen it spins. The developer made the application like standard social slot casino apps with leaderboards and coin in app purchases. Its social aspect isn’t very strong though, the developer should have added greater Facebook features. At least it comes with Game Center achievements and leaderboards.

This is 1st iteration of Zeroed Out based on current limitations of Apple Watch. Finally, once the technology gets better and developers gain greater access to Apple Watch’s features it should open up newer avenues in casual and social gaming right on that wrist. With just a glance and then a tap, you could spin a slot game with a very tiny slice of time that you cannot normally do on the phone. Then when you get time to reach for the phone, you can get a similar though much more refined slot experience.
PROS.

  • Furiously paced RPG-platform gameplay.
  • Simple, yet satisfying master melee, combat and magic-based attacks that make short the work of every enemy type.
  • Novel to the very end; be it newer variations, spells, enemies, weapons to make sure you are always hooked.

CONS.

  • Control over the weapon swings is limited; set pattern does make certain enemies quite frustrating to tackle.
  • Platforming occasionally frustrating.

VERDICT.

Zeroed Out treads finely in the line between love letter and slavish homage to a genre and style of action-adventure which remains exciting all thanks to the almost unstoppable pace which keeps you hooked to the end.
