Remember Chip and Dale? It used to be the most entertaining and fun-filled half-hour of my whole day. Glued to the TV screen, it was always fun watching them fight over those trivial acorns. In fact, by the time I had become accustomed to the show, even that acorn had become as precious to me as “the ring to the Gollum”. So do you want to relive those memories? At least you’d like your children to know about them, right? So let’s go on a hunt of those acorns. But this time you’re not going to be watching it all happen from outside the screen; you’ll be doing it from the inside.
I’m talking about the latest iOS app called Tap Tap Squirrel that has been developed by The Happy Mongoose Company. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 6.0 or any later version of the OS. This app has also been optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
In Tap Tap Squirrel, you have to help George reach his tree house at the end of every level. But before reaching that final destination, first you have to clear several hurdles placed in your way strategically. You’ll actually be going up jumping from platform to platform and in this course, there will be some hazards like water and spikes that you have to simply jump upon and avoid. But then there are some enemies of the likes of wasps, birds, spiders and caterpillars that will come to you on their own. So you don’t just have to choose an alternate route obviating them; you’ll have to keep repeating it if they follow you.
Other than avoiding all those obstacles, there is another important work to do here. You have to collect as many acorns as well as all the power ups available on the way. The upgrade store has a very big menu and to afford all those upgrades, you’ll need these acorns. So the more you collect them, the better will be your performance in the further levels. The swipe and tap controls help you to concentrate freely on the game and nothing else.
With more than 100 levels of gameplay, you have more than enough content here to kill your boring hours. Then there are many different types of missions such as time trials, skill tests as well as treasure hunts. So there’s a lot of stuff to keep you occupied. If you’re hesitant about handing over the device to your child in fear of in-app purchases, then there’s a baby-sitting mode as well in which all the in-app purchases get locked. So now it’s safe even in the hands of a baby.
The pixel art graphics will take you back to your childhood days. The developers have kept the glary and bright colours out of the screen and kept everything simple and beautiful. The animations are flawless and what’s better than playing a retro game in a retro style!
The app is available for free in the App Store.
So what are you waiting for!
Pros: beautiful pixel art graphics; 100+ levels; lots of upgrades; baby-sitting mode; multiple missions; free.
I will give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
