Readers are Leaders. The more you read, the more you’re fit to lead a group of people. Here we are not talking about Politics, but even if you want to lead a better life for yourself, you need to be well acquainted with the world around you. That’s why Newspapers are still considered the building-blocks of a good and responsible citizen. They not only get you the latest Sports News (which we always prefer to read first) but also build and affect your decisions regarding the policies of Government, help you realise the structure of the world economy and therefore expand your participation in the world. But when you’re travelling in a busy metro or working in a different country with a different language, Newspaper’s not always the first or the smartest choice for gathering all such information. So what is it?

I’m talking about the latest app Engage Apps that has been developed by M.I.R. Publishing. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 7.1 or any later version of the OS. This app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.

Engage Apps is a news-reader app that fetches news from several different sources such as NPR News, The Drudge Report and stitches them all together seamlessly under one roof. The news is finely distributed under 13 different sections with all the top-stories under one tab. So if you just want to go through all the highlights in brief, you have a choice. If you just want to go through a particular section such as Business, Entertainment or Sports, you still have a choice. So you’re not bound to a particular option. Moreover, each post has a picture and a headline which pretty much gives you an idea of what the post is about. If you’re interested, you may tap and read the whole article or you may continue your search otherwise.

When you tap on a post, you can see the total number of users reading the same article with you. Then, you may either read the post at the same time or in case you’re in a hurry and have to discontinue in the middle, you can save the article for later re-reading. This will save you from re-searching the article at a later time or at a later day when the article is no more available.

What this app brings new on the table is the participation of its readers. Until now, we read an article and rarely do we think of posting a comment in the comment section below; maybe because we’re not encouraged for doing so. But with Engage Apps, there’s an active user community with each individual leaving a feedback or a general comment on what s/he thinks about the article. You can engage in conversations and interact with other users as well. If a particular person’s comment interests you, you can even start a person one-to-one conversation. At last, you can spot all these active users on the map as well.

So overall, Engage Apps is an amazing news-reading app that encourages avid user participation.

This app is available for free in the App Store.

Pros: intuitive UI; save articles for reading later; 13 different sections; post comments; interact with other readers; spot readers on map; free.

Cons: none.

I will give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
