Have you ever tried to find a home using Google Maps? No doubt that it’s the most used option to do that but even the Satellite view is not enough for you to distinguish between two buildings until and unless street view is available for that location (which is available only for limited places). This is because all the images are taken from a very long distance and get blurred when zoomed considerably. So there must be a way so that all the buildings look exactly or at least similar to what they are. It would be great if everyone contributes towards building a 3D world on the screen. Let’s see how it goes then.
I am talking about the new iOS app, Cutetown San Francisco that has been developed by Cutetown Ltd. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS5.0 or later version of the OS. Using this app, you’ll be building your own structures but you don’t need a degree in architectural engineering to do that. All you need is this app and that’s all.
To start creating a building, first you take the image of that building from the satellite view. This establishes the ground area and the exact location of the building to be used on your map. Then first you create the foundation. After having done that, enter the details of the building such as the number of stories, windows, doors, etc. But it might take you years to build your own city in this way. Therefore, all the users of the app collaborate on the project and contribute towards building the entire map. But it also states that you need an internet connection during the entire time of construction. This should be revised and the maps should be downloadable so that you need an internet connection only to upload them.
You can take it as a bonus or as an inspiration as the developers have included a high resolution map of Stanford University Campus. I must say that it brings out alive the beauty of the University and couldn’t have been portrayed any better than this. It defines the actual power of the 3D editor of the app. You can create almost anything and you’d love to use it more and more. The graphics are very sharp and clear and very much realistic as well thanks to the 3D look. Moreover, you can sign the buildings created by you much like a Novel written by an author giving you the feel of its owner.
The app is available for free in the App Store and I can’t assure you for how much longer. So without wasting any further time, just bag this one. It’s a must have.
