Imagine you are in the middle of a jungle and you suddenly get to look at a beautiful bird. You don’t know what the name of its species is, but you desperately want to know. You have no other option than searching for all the different species of birds found in that jungle and then match with the one you saw. It’s a very difficult to follow procedure and who knows if you’ll ever get to the results or not. Maybe that bird doesn’t belong to that place and is a native of somewhere else. There are many possibilities and more the number of possibilities, more is the difficulty for you. But hadn’t it been better if you could just take a photograph of that bird and use it as a search tool? If you think it is, then just follow the next few lines and you’ll get to know what I’m talking about.
There are not many apps that amaze me as much as did this one. The name of the iOS app is CamFind and it can find anything for you with just a shot; and I literally mean “anything”. The app has been developed by Image Searcher who has already been praised for its previous apps for visually impaired people. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 6.0 or any later version of the OS. The app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.
With CamFind in your iPhone, you’ll no longer have to type in anything in the search bar to get to know about it. Just aim your camera at the product, building, place or just anything materialistic, take a picture and let the CamFind do its job. It will use your GPS location and give you a list of different search options matching with the image. For example, you can take a look at all the related images. In case it’s a product, you can see a list of its prices from different sources, compare yourself and shop directly. If it’s a movie poster in a different language, it will translate it for you and give you results with same accuracy as for any other language.
Some other features are QR and Barcode Reader, text search, voice search, social sharing, etc. In case there are many products in front of you and you want to find search results for any particular one, then there is a feature for automatic focus so that you can focus on that product alone. There are many other useful features.
The user interface is neatly designed and despite of so many features, you won’t be confused at any moment. There are just 3 buttons at the bottom and you can have access to all the features using them. But the major problem with these kinds of apps is their accuracy rate and I must say that this app is not going to score a single negative mark. Compared to Google Goggles with an accuracy rate of just 15-20%, this app scores nearly 80% which in itself tells you the story.
You will be amazed to know that this app is available for free but I don’t think it’ll remain there for long. So you better take your piece as soon as possible!
