Old songs are still played, still heard and still considered to be the best master-pieces ever developed. The music of the new generation is unambiguously very exciting and popular as well. But there seems to be a “calmness” in the classics which is missing from the current tracks. If you want to relax for a moment, you go back to the collection of your father. There’s a kind of similarity in this trend among games as well. What we used to play years ago has been lost in this transition from “virtual” to “virtual reality”. Nowadays, games are almost as real as the world around us and this striking comparison has been able to attract more eyeballs than ever. But somewhere down the lane, the old games are still missed. So just to rejuvenate that embedded memory of yours, here comes Space Max!

If you haven’t heard about the name, then it’s an iOS app that has been developed by Nguyen Quoc Nam Tran. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 7.0 or any later version of the OS. This app has also been optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Space Max takes you on an adventurous ride of your galaxy. You’re inside a spaceship and you’re on a never-ending voyage. But it’s a well-known fact that our galaxy is full of objects like comets and asteroids and therefore assuming it a traffic-free road can be a big mistake. In Space Max, you have to guide your ship through these obstacles which are irregularly placed on your way. To control your ship, you have to tilt the phone left or right and the ship will move accordingly. But the controls are quite sensitive and it might take you some time to get familiar with them. But once you do, it becomes quite an extraordinary journey to be on!

Another important control that you can’t survive without is the “slow down” button. Normally, you’d be travelling at a lightning speed and you’d reach the top-end of your phone screen immediately. So you won’t be able to watch the incoming objects and therefore a collision is inevitable. That’s where this “slow down” button comes to the rescue. It pulls you back and gets you back on the track. It almost gives your ship a jumping effect. So the winning formula to this amazing journey is a combination of fast and slow.

The graphics of Space Max are neither too shiny nor too sharp but are rather given a blunt edge to match with the retro-theme of the game. The overall design is simple with smooth animations. The gameplay is very addictive and would certainly compel you to play again and again.

So give a miss to your regular activities and go on a galactic journey with Space max!

Pros: retro-themed graphics; endless and addictive gameplay; challenging; free.

Cons: none.

I will give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
