The games nowadays are too sophisticated and complex to even try your hands at. What was initially conceived as a source of amusement has now ventured into many new dimensions and the original concept of “fun” doesn’t seem to exist anymore. Obviously the graphics have improved and we’ve created a parallel world that’s superior to ours in many qualities (you can die and come back for example!), but we’re trying to create a world that we already have and the more effort it takes for the developers to create it, the more input it demands out of us as players. Reminiscing back those days of simple but challenging games, today we have a game called Sword of Xolan that looks promising. Let’s see if it actually fulfils it!
Sword of Xolan is the latest released Android app that has been developed by Alper Sarikaya. The app is compatible with all the devices running Android 2.3 or any later version of the OS.
Sword of Xolan is the story of a young man named Xolan who’s ready to take metal with anybody who stands between him and his justice. It’s a story of good versus the evil and the developers have chosen a similar outfit for the game. Dressed as a royal warrior with a sword in his hand, Xolan can outshine even the bravest of the fighters of the ancient era. But when you’re talking about the ancient period, you must be well acquainted with all the fables and legends about dragons and magic. So this game doesn’t leave any stone unturned and puts you face-to-face with 30 different enemies including the likes of zombies, giants and flying creatures. So be prepared for some fatal challenges that may claim your lives more often than you expected.
There is fire on your back, spikes underneath your next step and there’s a dragon waiting for you hoping you clear all these obstacles so that it can eat you alive. There are as many challenges as there are colours on the screen. Though Sword of Xolan has been handcrafted in Picture Art Style and it might look old-fashioned to some, it certainly gives the game the right “kick”. It doesn’t look too flashy neither does it appear dull. Moreover, the animations are very smooth and slick. So the overall impression of the game is great.
The game consists of 30 levels of destruction and carnage with 9 time-based challenges. Furthermore, there are 3 boss stages. To help you accomplish over the difficult challenges, there are 10 upgrade-cards that help you improve your skills and fight with more strength and power. With 19 Game Center achievements to unlock, there’s much more in this game than you could anticipate. So get suited in the insignia of a soldier, take your sword and jump in the battlefield; the battle has already started!
The app is available for free in the Play Store.
Pros: pixel art style graphics; smooth animations; 30 levels; 9 time-based challenges; 19 achievements; 3 boss fights; 30 different enemies; free.
I will give this app 4.5 out of 5 stars.
